Here’s what the students have to say about their visits to the

Chatham-Kent Children’s Safety Village

Dear CK Safety Village Staff,

We had a fun time at the Children’s Safety Village today.  It is a really great place to come and learn about fire, road and water safety.

Firefighter Dawson told us that we need to have a plan and a meeting place to be safe in case of a fire.  We liked checking out Sparky’s kitchen for things that might cause a fire.  It was fun climbing out the window and down the ladder in Sparky’s bedroom.  We are going to ‘bug’ our parents to check the smoke detectors to be sure that they are working.

Special Constable Wolting taught us that police officers, firefighters and paramedics are safe strangers.  We learned about when to call 911.  Our favourite activity was driving the cars around the roadway.  We tried to obey all signs and signals.

Troy told us that blue ice is the strongest ice.  Grey ice is often not safe especially if it has cracks and snow on it.  We will make sure we are with a buddy or an adult when we are near water.  We will wear life jackets and always sit down in a boat.

We want to say thank you to all of these people for helping us to learn more about safety.

From,

Grade 1 students
